Category Diabetes & Liver
Non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) as the name implies, is due to too much fat stored in the liver. It is the most common cause of abnormal liver function tests. It is associated with diabetes, high blood pressure, high lipid levels, obesity & insulin resistance. These patients may not have any symptoms for a long time. However, some patients can progress to aggressive form of fatty disease called Non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis & then full blown cirrhosis of liver. This test panel indicates the degree of liver fibrosis thereby identifying patients at risk of progressing to cirrhosis.
