Overview
What is HOMA-IR ; INSULIN RESISTANCE INDEX
A series of tests called HOMA-IR determines whether or not you are resistant to the effects of insulin. The hormone insulin, which is released by the pancreas, instructs your body’s cells to permit blood sugar to enter them in order to produce energy. Your blood sugar levels rise as a result of insulin resistance, which prevents this action. If you smoke, are obese, older than 45, have a family history of Type 2 Diabetes, use certain medications like steroids, have sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, or polycystic ovaries, you may develop insulin resistance. Reversing insulin resistance requires a change in lifestyle.
